The entire basis of a sexual role-play is to create and maintain the illusion that you are someone else, and that your partner is someone else. While the majority of this illusion is created with the use of settings, props and a script by which the participant adopts the personna of their character, much of this illusion is derived from the use of costumes and male & female grooming.

For the vast majority of SexSkits, it will be the female partner who must adopt a very different personna requiring the use of sometimes sophisticated costumes. This follows, as it is common knowledge that men are more stimulated by visual stimuli than are women. Men tend to see something and come to believe what their eyes perceive. Additionally, women generally are more sexually inhibited than are men, and sometimes require additional props and costume work to assume the different characters that they must in order for the SexSkits to work.

For the most part, the costumes utilized in many SexSkits can be purchased from an online costume vendor or a good costume store in your area. many of the accessories you may already have at home. Specialized lingerie, bras, panties, jewelry, and sleepwear may be purchased either online or at a favorite specialty shop. Many such vendors are listed in the Links page in this website.

For some SexSkits, the costume may only contain those items that the male participant already has at his disposal. Many types of clothing in his closet may be used, while at times, it may become necessary to purchase something relatively inexpensive to complete the look, such as eyeglasses, a tie, or a briefcase. Many of these items can be found in a local drug store or discount store. Other jewelry, thong underwear and temporary tatoos may need to be purchased at specialty stores.

It is the intent that when the male participant gets into his costume and the female participant gets into hers, it will be all that much easier for him to get into character. This is important for it will help the male participant see this as something more than a fantasy, and help the female participant shed some of her natural inhibitions. It will be much easier for either participant to say, act and perform in a manner in which they don't normally if they can reasonably believe through play-acting that they are someone else, and that their trusted partner is someone else as well.

The male participant should, after securing all items needed for the SexSkit role-play, to periodically dress up when they are alone, and look at themselves in the mirror. This is the "Dress Rehearsal" for the SexSkit, and gives them ample time to get comfortable with their character, their lines, actions and responses that will play out in the SexSkit. As the role becomes more comfortable and second-nature through practice, it will become easier to perform in front of their one-woman intended audience.
