Furniture & Props

The furniture and props called for in many SexSkits can probably already be found in your home. In developing your SexSkit, look around you house, and pick those items that you think you can use to create the atmosphere and setting that you are trying to achieve. Props can be anything, and don't necessarily need to be associated with the topic or title of the SexSkit, but are thematic in nature. Props can also serve a dual purpose. For example, a lamp may serve as a prop, because it is representative of the period or the theme of the SexSkit, and it may also provide the type of lighting called for. In a SexSkit revolving around a filmshoot, for example, you may employ a camera or video recorder. This prop can serve a dual purpose as an indirect prop (something that simply exists in the set), or a direct prop, where it is actually handled and utilized by a participant. The video camera may also be considered to have a dual purpose should you and your partner be feeling a little more daring, and decide to film your performance for alater viewing!

Furniture used in SexSkits can also have dual purposes, where it can just be a period piece or theme piece to help create and reinforce the overall theme or mood of the setting, or it may be a functional piece. Tables, chairs, couches, beds are all potentially double-use furniture pieces. It is important to remember that when using a piece of furniture in your SexSkit as a functional piece, that it must be sturdy enough to handle the weight of both you and your partner, should the SexSkit call for that type of action, or an improvisation is called in the middle of the SexSkit. Nothing will ruin your intimate encounter with your lover more than an unintended injury due to a prop or furniture failure.

In some situations, the furniture that you have on hand, either in your home or in a motel room that you have rented for the occasion, may not fit the theme of the setting or mood that you are trying to create. When this is the case, think about disguising that furniture piece with drop cloths, slip covers, or silk / satin / cotton sheets to mask the piece and create a new look. In situations that call for a couch, and you only have a bed to work with, try using a lot of pillows arranged down the middle of the bed and covering the setup with a sheet to give the illusion of a couch. Use your imagination and encourage your partner to do the same in creating our setting(s).
